How to Use

• Prepare the metal
  Lightly file (rasp) the surface of the metal to expose the core and distinguish solid gold from gold-plated items.
• Create a test mark
  Rub the metal firmly against the touchstone using a clean, sharp downstroke.
• Apply the testing solutions
  Start with the 8ct acid and progress upward (14ct, 18ct, 21.6ct):
  • 8ct acid reacts with metals below 8ct
  • 14ct acid reacts with metals below 14ct
  • 18ct acid reacts with metals below 18ct
  • 21.6ct acid reacts with metals below 21.6ct
    • If the mark reacts or begins to foam, the gold content is below the carat level of the applied solution.
• Optional cross-check
  For added accuracy, verify results using a testing star (sold separately).
  Make an additional downstroke with the matching gold testing star, apply the same solution to both marks, and compare reactions.
• Clean the touchstone
  Rinse the stone carefully with water, then apply Kontrasol with a soft cloth to clean and preserve the surface.

Silver testing follows the same procedure using the included solution calibrated to 800 silver.
